![]() Tyre pressure setup on the Stache is more critical than for most other bikes, so we’ve been experimenting with different setups to get the best combination of traction, tyre stability and rolling efficiency. The Stache’s ‘Stranglehold’ dropouts allow for the bike to be configured in 29+, 27.5+, regular 29”, and even as a singlespeed!ĭespite the Stache being more open to change that Donald Trump’s policies, we would definitely recommend giving the Stache a good crack in its original 29+ guise, as the benefits of the 29+ tyres are really what make this bike shine. The cranks have some minor cosmetic scuffs, but nothing to bad. I really dig the sram GX groupset for its affordability and its performance. The chupacabras Bontrager came out with are awesome, and surprisingly light for a 29+ tire. The DB5 brakes and 180 rotors have tons of stopping power, and the tires are in great shape. The Manitou fork is awesome, has lots of travel, and the lock out works like the day I first got it. It can even be put together as a single speed. It easily changes from a reliable bikepacking rig to a race machine. I've run it with a second wheelset with 2.2's on it and the conversion was easy because of the sliding dropouts. My favorite part about this bike is its unending versatility. At first people gawked at the sight of somebody racing a 29+ in cross country races, but when they saw how fast the bike was and how much fun I was having, they were converted to true believers. I've only done a couple of races on this bike, but in the short time that I've ridden it my confidence on rocky climbs and ledges has tripled! The plus sized tires and short wheelbase means this bad boy climbs like a goat and flies over descents. I've had the bike for nearly a year and I have learned so much about shredding from it. I replaced the stock saddle with a Fizik Pave CX because its more comfortable. This model has purple and electric blue paint, just like a wildberry poptart. Trek really knocked it out of the park with this bike, and I love this bike, but its time to make room in my little house for more things. The time has come to sell my 2016 Stache 7.
